Heinrich Bensing
After making his debut in Hannover, he was a member of the Cologne opera from 1935 to 1939. Having made a few successful guest
appearances in Frankfurt, he was hired by the opera theater there, and remained until his early death.
As a guest, he sang at the Vienna Staatsoper (1940–44, and again 1949–54), Leipzig, Hamburg, Barcelona, and at the
Salzburg Festival.
His specialty was the Italian repertory: Manrico, Calaf, Riccardo, Turiddu, Radamès, Cavaradossi, Don Carlo, Pinkerton and so on. I wish to thank Thomas Silverbörg for the recording (Africaine). |
