Edward Sooter was born in 1934 in Salina, Kansas, studied voice at Friends University, served
in the Army and earned his Master of Voice from Kansas University. He went to Germany on a Fulbright scholarship to continue
his studies. He had a 30-year international career singing opera as a heldentenor, including 10 years singing principal roles at
the Met. He moved to Maryville in 1989, where he was active in the church choir and served his
community in various music ensembles. Mr. Sooter was preceded in death by his wife, Kaaren Erickson Sooter.
