He started his career at the Novosibirsk opera theater. From 1963 to 1967, he was a soloist in Cheljabinsk. For the rest of his short life, he sang at the Kirov (Mariinskij) in Leningrad.

His repertory included Sadko, Manrico, Sobinin, Duca, Alfredo, and José.
