Originally an agricultural engineer, he studied voice in Krakow, Rzeszów and Milano and made his debut in Krakow in
1957 as Lenskij (which was to be one of his most successful parts). At the Teatr Wielki in Warsaw from 1960; he stayed until 2011 (!),
and sang almost 1200 performances there. His repertory included, other than oratorio and lied, Belmonte, Alfredo, Duca, Ernesto,
Hoffmann, Pinkerton, Rodolfo, Almaviva, Pang, Jontek, Stefan (Straszny dwór) or Shepherd (Król Roger); in his later
years primarily Altoum.
From 1971, he also taught voice, and eventually became long-term head of the voice department at the Chopin University of Music in
Warsaw.
