Peter Markwort

Peter Markwort, born October 10th, 1897 Cologne; died June 9th, 1982 Hamburg. Debut in Wuppertal in 1931; soon after that, he came to Hamburg, where he spent his entire career at the Staatsoper, as a regular member through 1949 and as a guest through 1968 (!). He sang a wide repertory, from Manrico, Radames or Alvaro to Pedro in Tiefland or Peter Grimes and to comprimario parts like Mime or David, not at different stages of his career, but all contemporaneously. As Mime, he was successful internationally (London, La Scala, Barcelona).
