Heldentenor, born March 10th, 1886 in Düsseldorf, died October 2nd, 1972 in Pöcking (Bavaria). Studied medicine and voice at the same time. When the manager of the Deutsche Oper Berlin heard him by chance in 1913, he immediately engaged him, and Laubenthal stayed with the Deutsche Oper until 1923. From 1923 to 1933, he was a member of the Metropolitan Opera, his first role there being Walther von Stolzing. He made several guest appearances at Covent Garden (the first in 1922), in Vienna, at the Berlin Staatsoper, in Chicago and San Francisco.
