He got a late start because of the Second World War. He made his debut in 1953 in Linz, where he stayed for three seasons;
1956–63, he was a member of the Graz opera, then in Dortmund for three seasons, and another three in Linz again, where
he gave up his career in 1969.
He sang mostly lyrical parts: Belmonte, Tamino, Almaviva, Nemorino, Alfredo, Duca, Rodolfo, Pinkerton, Rinuccio, Faust,
Jeník, Barinkay, Alfred in Fledermaus; but also Manrico and even Pollione. At the 1957 Bayreuth Festival, he was one of
the Esquires in Parsifal.
