Reto Calli

Reto Calli singsTosca: Recondita armonia, with unknown bass
In RA format

Mystery tenor from an age when there were normally no mystery tenors any longer. Not even his name is entirely clear: he normally appeared as Reto Calli, but from 1982 or 1983 on, all of a sudden, as Reto de Calli. One way or the other, the name is quite certainly Swiss (Reto is a German name that's exclusively in use in Eastern Switzerland and in tiny Liechtenstein, its original meaning is "the Rhaetian", a small ethnic group in the Canton of Grisons).

Reto (de) Calli can be found at German theaters in the 1970s and 1980s: at the Theater des Westens in Berlin, and above all in Saarbrücken.

I would like to thank Ross Halper for the recording.
