Born in 1878 Muncie/Indiana, died October 23rd, 1933, Darien/Connecticut. Ernestine Schumann-Heink discovered his voice, but his career was originally limited to vaudevilles. From 1910 at Oscar Hammerstein's Manhattan Opera House, later mostly in Chicago, 1919 to 1924 at the Met. Returned finally to operetta.
