Giffin served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII, and afterwards, became an opera singer. As a dramatic tenor in Europe, he performed in many operas, but specialized in Wagnerian works, such as Tannhäuser and Lohengrin.

In the U.S., he performed with the Metropolitan Opera in NYC but only as a comprimario; as such, he took part in the 1966 first public performance of the company at Lincoln Center, the world premiere of Barber's Antony and Cleopatra.

Norman Giffin sings Antony and Cleopatra: Naught, naught all, naught, with Ezio Flagello and Ron Bottcher
It seems that Giffin's voice has only been recorded in the Antony and Cleopatra world premiere, where he sang the minuscule part of Demetrius. This snippet encompasses his entire role; he's the only tenor in this scene and thus easily recognizable.
