Herbert Prikopa

30 November 1935 Vienna – 8 December 2015 Vienna

Prikopa as Frosch in Die Fledermaus

He was a quite popular TV host, comedian, film, TV and theater actor in Austria, particularly in the 1970s and 1980s; at the same time, he continued singing occasional operetta (buffo) roles at the Vienna Volksoper. Earlier in his career, as the below recording shows, he was a quite charming opera comprimario, too. He was a buffo, but not necessarily a buffo tenor: he also sang bass buffo parts like Ollendorf or Zsupan. Prikopa was active as a conductor (mostly operetta) well into the 21st century. His website (where also the above picture comes from) is still online.
