John Dickie, son of tenor Murray Dickie. Grew up in Vienna, where he also studied voice. Debut at the Vienna Volksoper; later a member of the opera theatres of Wuppertal, Mannheim and Hamburg. Debut at the Vienna Staatsoper in 1983. In his first few years, he would sing leading parts, but soon had to limit himself to comprimario parts, which he sang at the Staatsoper until his death, though his voice had been a total wreck for many years already.
