He studied voice in Tallinn conservatory with Hendrik Krumm and Ivo Kuusk until 1991, and attended master classes with Carlo Bergonzi, among others. Already in 1982, he started singing in the National Academic Male Choir, and in 1987 in the choir of the Tallinn opera theater, where he became a soloist in 1989. He was a regular guest in Oslo, Stockholm, Göteborg, Oulu, Tartu, Riga and Vilnius.

His repertory was primarily Italian (Nemorino, Arturo in Lucia, Alfredo, Riccardo, Turiddu, Edoardo in Un giorno di regno, Duca, Fenton, Cavaradossi, Rodolfo, Luigi, Ernani, Radames, Don Carlo), but he also sang Tamino, Ferrando, des Grieux (Manon), José Italienischer Sänger, Narraboth, Max and Grigorij.
